Before the Reverse

Writer's picture: Words Among TreesWords Among Trees

Power cuts

faded jeans

lack of bread

boring beans

potatoes with eyes

cold long nights

coal fire warmth

worst witch surprise

rounders in summer

'til ten at night

smell of tinsel

Christmas time

heavy snow

winter in prime

chinese food

saturday nights

familiar smell

of town forlorn

seasons lingered

for a soul worn

open air pool

trips to the sea

sound of wild wind

a mermaid I wished to be

sandcastle friends

beneath peaceful pier

already a philosophical mind

wondering why return here

rock and metal music

to this day therapeutic

random felted doll house

bagpuss and fingermouse

I don't remember money

but the snowman with smiles

don't remember materialism

but an owl's call once in a while

I vividly remember heavy snow

relentless as emotions stumbled home

Decembered echoes of childhood

frozen on a hospital window

to survive life one must seek daylight

lest cold grief cast eternal night
