It was meant to begin

at Chai Point

5.30 a.m.

except

like a lot of flights

delays paused plans

my luggage was lost

in a strange land

panic blinded common sense

heat choked inner compass

almost three days without sleep

had disorientated the path

yet I remember unusual fragrances

somersaulted around me

sunrise was so bright that day

my soul was worn from the grey

then I saw you and knew

the war had been won

I'd made it through the portal in time

to forevermore cherish you

our story had begun
