Somewhere
someone has become void
their lover
no more love
to offer
over the wall
a puppy howls
mother too tired
to comfort him
in another country
death numbs the heart
of one who has sank
into muddy water
traffic grows louder
the lake dirtier
in one sigh
of a dying star
another bite
infects the unaware
I remain motionless
reflective
in spaces of silence
from cricket's song
with your hand
paused on my face
I know
among literature and familiar noise
of the air conditioner
you are my final smile
the last radiant wave of warmth
in all that seems cold in this illusion
called life
through closed windows
I hear thunder arrive
while the puppy continues to mourn
another star dies in a polluted sky
