'Tis a Colourful World

I went swimming today.

Yes, I really did start this blog off with a boring statement and that is because I felt thankful today for small things. Not that going swimming is a small thing actually...as a kid, the pool was a walk for me, now I am lucky enough to have a pool literally two seconds away should I wish to swim beneath the balcony. Such things are not small indeed, no, they are not.

Anyhow, I got thinking as I lay afloat in the cold water, ravens chattering above me and hawks gliding for their lunchtime feast. I got to thinking of my small family, the blessings we will have over Christmas and the memories we shall make. These sentimental thoughts/emotions lead my mind down many avenues.

The main one being a so called caste system I guess. Not sure if the phrase is as prevalent now as the old days but I definitely see it around me daily. I pondered on this for a while and as always, when I meander through such thoughts, I ended up dazed how such a system could/can exist anywhere in this world in modern times. My mind wanders myriad hallways in one day.

The reason I became reflective on such things I suppose is reflecting on rubbish. Yes, rubbish. Recently a massive pile of rubbish (mainly nature cuttings) was cleaned away near where I live. This is not a single occurrence obviously, however, it made me think about those who actually did the clearing. The ones that remove rubbish from our daily lives, be it those who remove the bins or those who remove societies mess from places around us, they seriously do not get enough thanks and recognition.

We can educate about rubbish all we wish, until we are blue in the face so the saying goes but truth is unless people want to stop littering, they won't. Until that point, we rely on those who would have the heart to clear such rubbish away.

Of course, the state of rubbish and pollution in the world has crossed the acceptable and healthy mark in most places now but that is for another post maybe.

I have always felt there is no divide in humanity, division is man-made I feel. Who decides who is above or below another? Who determines which caste you are - in any country really - there may not seem to be a system in place in some places but there is judgement and an acknowledged working, middle or higher class etc and so forth.

The point is that those jobs classed in a "lower to lowest" rank are actually needed for balance and for society to keep running smoothly.

I guess this post is my way of saying thank you to those who may have such jobs and to address why the heck such systems of class are in place let alone why some people in such ranks are looked down upon or literally do not exist to another.

Loss of community is one reason humanity is becoming isolated and divided in my opinion. People can try to hide their eyes from events happening in the world that disturb or upset them but humans need each other to survive. Perhaps we have forgotten this over many moon cycles but if we can not help each other or at least live side by side with each other without judgement then what hope is there of maintaining any balance.

The line is vast and many issues tiptoe on that line, the topic here is but one of billions. It seems a logical and practical approach to life, to me, to be grateful to those who carry out such work. I have seen many sneer at such people, to those who do sneer, I would be most entertained to see how they cope without such people who clear their mess away.

Class/caste/conceited...

In this case A and B leads to skipping C for me.

Gratitude is a simple gesture.

Merry Yule to all and may you have a positive 2020.

Ruth.
